“Show class. Have pride. Display character. If you do, winning will take care of itself.” – Paul “Bear” Bryant

Shabbat Shalom!

There are times, as we meet and network with one another, that we sometimes hear, that someone says in a less than enthusiastic voice that they have been their sisterhood president for, “more years than they would like to count” or “I can’t even remember when I wasn’t the sisterhood treasurer” or even “I do it all”.

When I hear those phrases, among others, it makes me very sad. Sad because what I am not hearing is the pride in what they are doing. And, what does that say about themselves and their character? No matter where I go, I am very proud to represent WLCJ…I say that I am proud to be the Women’s League president…..but I started sharing my pride in whatever position I have held…be it Sisterhood president, region Torah Fund Vice President, Convention chair…..you get the picture! Can you imagine what might, could happen…if we all were proud of the work that we do for WLCJ and for your sisterhoods? No complaining just positive remarks.

Let’s try to think about it …..be proud of what you are doing. Share that enthusiasm with those around us. Be encouraging of others. It is not surprising to me, that those that complain about a job held for a long time…find it hard to find someone to mentor or someone that will step up…but if we are proud of what we do and who we do it with….then we all win.

So, the next time you have the urge to share your frustration with any woman within your synagogue community, think of this quote…count to 10….and be positive. By doing those small steps, you show your pride and it can be a win-win for all.

Wishing each of you a sweet and meaningful Shabbat,
Carol
