The Black Boxes of Judaism – Everything You Want to Learn about Tefillin.” Who, What, Where, When, Why? Lead by Dr. Anne Lapidus Lerner

What are tefillin? How are they made? What do they look like, inside and out? Who can wear them? When do we wear them? Why tefillin?

Dr. Anne Lapidus Lerner joined the JTS faculty in 1969. Dr. Lerner was the first woman to serve as a JTS vice chancellor. She had previously served as dean of the Albert A. List College of Jewish Studies, and as associate dean of the now Gershon Kekst Graduate School. In 2014, she inaugurated the Paula E. Hyman Mentoring Program to provide mentors for emerging scholars in the fields of Jewish and gender studies. A pioneer in the field of Jewish women’s studies, she is the founding director of the JTS Jewish Women’s Studies Program (now the Jewish Gender and Women’s Studies Program).  To view, click here.
